What is the NBN?
The National Broadband Network (NBN) is Australia’s nationwide internet infrastructure, managed by NBN Co, a government-owned corporation.
Instead of building their own networks, telcos like Telstra, Optus, and TPG resell internet plans using NBN’s fibre, copper or satellite infrastructure.
Depending on where you live, your connection type may vary:
- FTTP (fibre to the premises) – fastest & most stable
- FTTN, FTTC, or HFC – copper-based or cable
- Fixed Wireless or Satellite – for rural/remote areas

- NBN outages Brisbane – common with HFC connections in older suburbs
- NBN outages Sydney – concentrated around upgrade zones or copper transitions
Looking for specific provider disruptions? Use our map to check for Telstra NBN, Optus NBN outage, TPG NBN outage or Vodafone NBN outage — all in one place.
Still unsure?
Use the NBN outage check tool on our platform to verify connection status, historical downtime, and compare with similar reports in your neighbourhood.
Not every internet issue is an NBN failure — some may be caused by your provider, home setup, or local network congestion.
