New Zealand’s core fiber network used by all major ISPs
Chorus isn’t a retail brand, it’s the largest fixed-line infrastructure company in New Zealand.
It operates much of the country's fiber and copper network, supporting broadband services delivered by Spark, One NZ, 2degrees and many others.
With over 1 million homes and businesses connected to its fiber, Chorus forms the backbone of the Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) rollout.
No mobile, but the most critical internet infrastructure
Chorus does not operate any mobile towers or services. Its focus is entirely on the fixed access network:
- Fiber (FTTP) in cities, towns, and rural areas
- Copper (VDSL/ADSL) in legacy zones (gradually phased out)
- Open access wholesale model – any provider can resell over Chorus lines
If your broadband is down, chances are the issue may relate to Chorus — even if you're with another provider.
Check infrastructure issues or reported faults
Chorus doesn’t offer direct-to-consumer support. Contact your provider first. But to see if a fault is already known:

Vector, Orion and the lines companies behind your power
A Chorus fibre fault and a power cut are not the same problem. If your internet drops because the lights are out, the issue is with your electricity distributor, not your ISP. For an overview of how the New Zealand grid is organised, see the New Zealand power outage page.
Chorus operates the fibre network in most of the country, but not in Whangārei (Northpower Fibre), Hamilton and the wider central North Island (Tuatahi First Fibre) or Christchurch (Enable Networks).
In Auckland, fibre runs across the Vector electricity network; in Christchurch, the power lines belong to Orion (a sister company to Enable, both owned by Christchurch City Holdings).
