From challenger brand to full-service provider

Originally launched in 2009 to shake up mobile competition, 2degrees now offers mobile, broadband, and even energy services.

It serves over 1 million mobile customers, and since its merger with Vocus Group, it’s also a major player in fiber internet (Slingshot, Orcon brands now merged).

Its brand remains customer-friendly, with simple plans and solid value.

Mobile network is its own. Broadband rides Chorus fiber

2degrees owns a national 4G/5G mobile network that covers the vast majority of Kiwis.

For broadband, it operates as a retail provider over UFB infrastructure, using Chorus and other regional fiber networks.

It also sells fixed wireless broadband in areas with strong mobile coverage, offering a flexible alternative to fiber.

An ISP and an electricity reseller on the same bundle

2Degrees is one of the few New Zealand telcos to also resell electricity, with bundled broadband and power plans introduced after the Vocus merger. Even on a bundle, the company that restores the lights is not 2Degrees but the regional lines company.

For an overview of how the New Zealand grid is organised and how to find your local distributor, see the New Zealand power outage page.

In Auckland that lines company is Vector, across the central and lower North Island Powerco, and in Hawke's Bay, Taupō and Rotorua Unison Networks.
