A digital-first mobile service powered by banking innovation
Capitec Connect is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) launched by Capitec Bank to provide simple, affordable prepaid mobile services to its customers.
It allows users to buy airtime and data directly within the Capitec banking app and in physical branches.
A key differentiator is its no-expiry data model, where unused data never expires — a unique benefit in the local telecom market.
Capitec Connect focuses purely on mobile connectivity (voice and data). It does not offer fixed-line, fibre or TV packages, and all network access is provided through a host mobile operator partnership.
How the MVNO structure influences network reliability
Since Capitec Connect does not own its own radio network, it relies on Cell C's infrastructure (and indirectly MTN for roaming areas).
This layered setup means network outages can originate from:
- The host network (Cell C or its roaming partner MTN)
- Capitec’s MVNO platform (billing, SIM provisioning, activation)
- Interconnection or routing delays between Capitec and the underlying carrier
While this design enables national coverage, it also means that a Capitec Connect outage can be caused by issues outside the bank’s direct control.
How to check status and contact support
If your SIM shows “No service” or your data stops working, try the following:
- 📱 Restart your phone and toggle airplane mode to reattach to the network.
- 🧭 Visit the official info page → Capitec Connect Support
- 🏦 Ask for help via the Capitec Bank app (menu → Connect → Help) or in any branch.
- 📞 General inquiries can be made via 0860 10 20 43 (Capitec client care line).
Because Capitec Connect runs on third-party radio infrastructure, national outages are rare but can occur during MTN or Cell C maintenance periods.
